On Dec 1st of 2011 I made a 1/4 deposit on a job to make and install 9 wood windows, which were expected to be delivered in about 4 months. By the end of Feb I gave Mike Mullock, the business owner, another check for 1/4 of the total, a big mistake as this apparently removed his incentive to get the job done.
By late April Mike was giving me weekly excuses why the windows weren't yet ready.By May, fed up with his excuses, I drove out to the workshop in NJ where Mike's assistant Anthony Christino was supposedly building my windows, only to find that only the basic stock for making the windows was there, nothing had been assembled at all.
This process continued through Aug 30 2012, when Anthony finally finished installing the windows, over 4 months behind schedule! God knows how long it would have taken if I had not driven twice to is workshop. Mike had agreed to refund me $4,000.00 as a result of his lateness, which resulted in large delays for the general contractor that were costly to me, and months of extra rent payments since we couldn't move into our new place. I later found that Mike and Anthony had tried to recoup some of the refund by failing to install the antique glass that I had paid for. I subtracted this from the final check I wrote them.
So in spite of Mike's lies (I can't think of a nicer way to describe them) I would have forgotten about the whole mess, except that CWM Wooodwindows used the wrong weights in half the windows, meaning that both sashes would come crashing down when I lifted them.
In contacting Mike about the issue, he started a new round of assurances followed by missed deadlines - I even agreed to split the cost of his hiring someone to replace the weights (he claimed to be out of the business of making windows). But time and again he would promise to line someone up and then ignore my calls and emails.
Of all the contractors I dealt with during a 2 year renovation, Mike of CWM Woodwindows was the most frustrating and disappointing to work with.
